MeasureUp 2015 & MeasureUp 2016 conferences were hosted, sponsored, and organized by Clear Measure. MeasureUP is Austin's best one day conference to learn what it takes to deliver high-quality business software. Its three tracks provide attendees with something they are interested in: Business, Development, and DevOps. All focus on how to provide custom business software with a competitive advantage. MeasureUp is an informative, educational conference with over 20 sessions from well-known and respected professionals and MVPs. This conference is sponsored by Clear Measure, Octopus Deploy, and others. The event is open to the public. Attendees include CEOs, CIOs, Small Business Owners, Entrepreneurs, IT Managers, Engineers, and Developers.
Last held in 2016, we conducted "Code the Town" training for those wanting to participate in the Hour of Code instruction at local schools. The goal is to get community volunteers to give the age appropriate Hour of Code to every student at every grade level. We want to have our own community prepare students for a technology-based workforce. We also want to build a community of professionals and students that have a passion for coding and teaching.
These workshops encourage learning software development by doing. These advanced, 6-hour workshops teach advanced topics and avoid long slide based presentations. Instead we go deep into bigger topics such as CQRS, Event Sourcing, message driven architectures, automated deployments into the cloud, continuous delivery, etc. Attendees come with some programming experience. The last workshops were held in 2016, and have been largely supplanted by the Microsoft DevOps User Group.
The Microsoft DevOps User Group, sponsored by Clear Measure, meets in person in the Austin area and virtually via web conferencing. It's for software professionals working on the Microsoft platform who wish to explore, implement, and learn DevOps. This group embraces cloud and as such will bring in the best presenters for each topic while live streaming all content. This group recognizes the technical practices included in the DevOps Handbook by Gene Kim, Jez Humble, Patrick Bebois, and John Willis. We encourage members to read this book. From a technology perspective, we seek to implement these practices on Visual Studio-based software, leveraging VSTS, and running on Azure or on Windows servers anywhere.
Clear Measure matched 2:1 all employee monetary donations made to charitable agencies involved in Hurricane Harvey disaster relief. Some of those agencies:
We participated in Hurricane Harvey disaster relief where we worked in the Austin Disaster Relief Network warehouse helping in any capacity needed (clean up, sorting donations, putting together survivor kits).
We have participated in planning and cooking meals for families that have had a long day at the hospital caring for their loved ones.
We have participated in adopting families at Safe Place over the holidays for the last 4 years.
Every summer for the last 5 years Clear Measure has hired highly motivated high school seniors or college students who want to be immersed in the environment of a professional software engineering firm. The Internship Program spans all departments including engineering, sales, marketing, recruiting, and operations.
